Int'l Standard Web Portal Development Initiation in Tribhuvan University

Tribhuvan University Executive Council has approved the concept proposal prepared by Laboratory for ICT Research and Development (IOE) in association with Information and Communicaiton Technology Center (ICTC) of Institute of Engineering to develop ful features international standards web portal of its apex body, institutes, campuses, center departments and the reseach centers under the projected Viz. TU Web Online Presence Reform Project (OPRP). TU executive council has approved a total budget of about 1,36,00,000/- to develop and implement this project. The major objectives of this project were:

• Develop standard and fully dynamic web templates for university center, campuses/centraldepartments, research centers and faculties/departments.
• Develop full features content management system (CMS) for all developed web templates.
• Implement integrated website of TU including its all bodies and strengthen the content creation, management and visualization.
• The web system will be developed based on the features highlited in Figure 1

The portal developed was fully dynamic CMS based to be managed with different privileges. The CMS system is centrally authenticated and has decentralized content creation and management facilities. The system is developed using open-source package and fully customised according to TU needs with database to be able to support high volume of data for about at least five institutes, 15,000 faculties/staffs, 62 campuses, 40 central departments, and 1062 affiliated colleges.

The developed package thas sufficient security measures in the coding, database, and deployment infrastructure. Authentication verification via SMS OTP/email shall is applied with logging and monitoring of CMS activities.

The package is developed based on the DNS hierarcy of TU as shown in the Figure. 

LICT-ICTC has engaged in the technical part particularly in web portal development, deployment, testing, and verification, while TU IT Innovatio center has carried out all the administrative tasks e.g. human resource development, training, coordination and overall project implementation.
